RIYADH, 17 May — Philips Medical Systems (PMS) lifted the 2nd SACO Summer Cup 2002 softball cricket tournament in style beating hosts SACO comfortably by 92 runs at Al-Jeraisy grounds.

Winning the toss and electing to bat first, Philips started well with Muhammad Hussain and Afzal posting 50 runs partnership for the opening wicket. Adnan bowled at this juncture. Mohammed Hussain for his individual score of 19 and later Afzal was run out with his score reading 28. After fall of Afzal’s wicket Mohsin along with Muhammad Awais took the score to 99. Muhammad Awais made 34. After Awais’ exit Mohsin found an able partner Asif and were involved in an unbroken 106 run partnership for the 5th wicket.

Asif scored a fine 63 while Mohsin contributed 37. Philips finished their stipulated overs scoring 205 for 4. For SACO Anwar Ali took 2 wickets conceding 40 runs while Adnan and Jahangir took a wicket apiece giving away 49 and 47 runs respectively.

Needing 206 to win, SACO started badly losing their opening batsman Adnan and one drop Ashfaq in the first two overs. SACO could not recover from the early blows, lost wickets at regular intervals and were bowled out for 113 in just 9.2 overs.

Later in an impressive prize distribution ceremony Kamal Al-Malik coordination manager SACO gave away the prices.
