RIYADH, 17 May — The Ace Darters’ dream of capturing the championship title finally come true when they defeated their strongest rival, the Saudi Ericsson (SES) team in a highly-contested battle at the Cues Recreation Center last Friday. The Destroyers headed by rookie Vic del Agua also duplicated the scenario against Wild Bulls of Alex Suyo in Class B Division and walked away with the championship honors.

Both Ace and SES displayed equal talents in the preliminary round ending the singles a square 4-4. Ace dominated in the doubles round grabbing the first and second but failed to clinch the third doubles that could have ended the contest earlier. SES’ Rolly Navales accurately hit his D16 target in the last doubles giving his team a chance in the team match.

However, a more conditioned Ace team took the upper hand and pulled away by as much as 150 points that resulted to their victory. The stars of the game were team captain Manny Barroga who unleashed the winning pin, Marvin Bonus and Vic Manaois who contributed high output in the last leg.

In Class B Division, the more experienced Destroyer darters captained by Vic del Agua dominated the entire game denying the Wild Bulls team early in the doubles round and successfully clinched their first-ever championship crown. Top players of the team were Danny Mendieta, Boy Concepcion, Larry Ramos, Vic Briones and Mario Lorenzo. This team will automatically join the Class A group in the next tournament in July.

The MVP qualifiers of this contest are: Ely Martos of Saudi Ericsson, Abet Apon, Manny Barroga and Banny Alagar of Ace Darters, Jun Lagrana and Jimmy Alapide of Break Point, Ramon Flores and Claro Bustamante of First Flight, Rod Viray of Conqueror and Danny Mendieta of Destroyer. All will vie for the stepladder contest today before the awarding ceremonies to be held at the Cues Recreation Center at 4:00 p.m.

This tournament is organized by the Expat Darters of Saudi Arabia chaired by Flor Almoite which is based in the capital city.
