JEDDAH, 17 May — Class ‘C’ bowler Leo Laygo unleashed his outstanding performances and led Seiko bowling team to the fore in the 39th week of the long running 42-week Tuesday Night League tournament organized by the Brotherhood Bowling Group (BBG) here at the Jeddah Bowling Center.

Equipped with a 28-pin handicap per game, Laygo blasted the lanes with the scratch scores of 213, 193 and 227 and romped away with the bowler of the week award at a series of 717 as he led Seiko to collect 65 points at the expense of Top Gun.

N-Ball quartet of Leo Pangilinan (253), Jerriel Cacao (234), Nap de Guzman (207) and Lavern Laderas (143) put up a dazzling show on the penultimate set that propelled them to collect the team of the week award at 76 points. The sterling games of the four neophytes, who as a total team handicap of 73, fortified their 16 points at the beginning (784) and another 16 points on the final game (788) en route to earn 22 bonus points at a series of 2482.

Playing unopposed due to the default of Bakin & Co., N-Ball again snatched their second team of the week award in three weeks, the first on the 37th at 86 points. The prize, however, will be awarded to Seiko in accordance with the existing rules. There are five teams that had posted higher points than Seiko but all have already received their prizes. Al Alamiah Insektos and Abudawood Trading posted 71 points each; The Falcon swiped 68; while Sky Freight Forwarders and KKB delivered 67 points apiece.

Abudawood Trading bowlers’ Lindo Villanueva (243), Hero Garcia (229), Fadi Al Twaireb (191) and Levis Janaban (195) snatched the first 22 points at a series of 858 against Saudi Diyar Consultants. Half-way of the match, however, they failed to sustain the steam of the game. The four ‘traders’ met walls of splits and could only encash 10 points with a score of 768. On the final bend, Abudawood bounced back and swiped 827 for 18 points. Their series of 2,453 received 21 bonus points.

Saudi Diyar Consultants were devastatingly low at the beginning (701) that even after accelerating in the remaining two games could only manage to put up a series of 2,287. The ‘consultants’ snatched 51 points through Raul de los Reyes, Olie Jacinto, Larry Santos and Jerry Valle.

Pitted against Top Gun, Seiko bowlers Albert Sarte (213), Leo Laygo (241), Rene Martinez (195) and Obie Ycasas (204) displayed their unique precision and collected 21 points after scoring 853 pins including handicap.

Ruben Medina, Leo Edejer, Rudy Valenzuela and Mar Cabrera of Top Gun retaliated on the second game, shot 817 and hit 20 points. With a 1-1 win-loss card, Top Gun has a running total of 38 while Seiko had 36. On the last set, the ‘gunmen’ merely scored nine points after loosing their marks while Seiko maintained their precise moves for 13 points.

Randy Mata, Ver Luz, Cyril Balasico and Bobby Barraquel of KKB routed throughout the match Guess? bowlers Jess Escondo, Gil Ordonez, Ariel Urquia and Bhoi Ycong. After the gruelling battle, the match carded 67-35 in favor of KKB.

SkyFreight Forwarders Cris Villavelez, Rene Santiago, Edu Toledo and Fred Monzon delivered another blistering performances during the week, demolished the undermanned Otra Cosa in three straight games. SkyFreight packed 67 points while Otra Cosa scored 19.

Although The Falcon failed to take off at a high altitude on the second game, Bob Marcantel (247) and Danny Bautista (227) powered the ‘bird’ to roar high on the final match against PICPA. The Falcon flew away 22 points at a total of 861 pins including handicap. PICPA-PRO was credited with 17 points after a low-profile game.

Al Alamiah Insektos continued to earn more points while they kept on pursuing front runner Internet@Kape. From a fair start, the ‘Insektos’ accelerated till the third game and brought home 71 points. Their opponent, D’Amigos, registered 26 points.

In spite of poor showing at the start (8.5 points), ‘ace’ bowlers Rally Zamora, Nap Patayan, Igna Salgado and Odjie Sagcal of Sarawat outrank MBC quartet of Jess Pineda, Benjie Cils, Dante Calapatia and Glen Sibag at the final count. The match recorded 64.5-52 points.

Leo Pangilinan of N-Ball has just joined the BBG elite club by submitting a score of 253. Nonie Yap of Al Alamiah Insektos and Ruben Medina of Top Gun passed their third entry to the Club with the scores of 266 and 256, respectively.

Art Sta. Maria of ????! and Ed Labuac of The Falcon received special prizes for converting 6-7-10 splits into spare.

In a related development, the heat had intensified at the qualifying rounds of the First Summer Open Bowling Tournament going on at the Jeddah Bowling Center (JBC). The event, which has a total cash prize of more than SR30,000 is jointly organized by the Brotherhood Bowling Group (BBG), Filipino Tenpin Bowlers of Jeddah (FTBJ) and the Jeddah Bowlers League (JBL).

The tournament, open to all male bowlers in the Kingdom, is slated until May 30, 2002. The rules and format of the tournament are posted at the JBC Bulletin Board.
