RIYADH, 24 May — Elmer Bandal and Dick Policarpio of the Communication and Dunkin Donuts teams respectively made coaches Danny Bugayong and Ronald Solis feel proud of them after enlisting stirring records in their respective team’s spreadsheet in a recent battle favoring the Communication team, 75-72. Bandal and Policarpio achieved 32 and 27 points correspondingly notwithstanding their exceptional marks in the tournament’s statistic sheet during the 7th week action of the Jeraisy Group of Companies First Open Inter-Company Basketball League at the Jeraisy Staff Compound Basketball Court, Exit 7 – every Thursday and Friday.

The Communication and Dunkin Donuts cagers fought courageously to the defense of their respective teams with nobody surrendering the battle as the scores were seen so close to each other from the commencement to the conclusion of the ballgame. Coach Danny Bugayong of the Communication team this time made sure through his proper fielding of cagers that this game will be to their advantage as his cagers led by Elmer Bandal, Mike Angelo, Joel Payot, Richard Dayanan and John Ferrer made scores and good defense. In the same manner, Dick Policarpio, Ronald Solis, Francis Telan, Reynante Lopez, and Noel Carlos did their best to maintain a narrow lead by their opponents where series of deadlocks were registered. Not to be outdone, one of Francis Telan’s three-point shot during the final quarter enable the Donuts boyz to lead by a hairline but not till the end of the ballgame where hero Elmer Bandal made his penetration drives and follow-up shots paving the way for the Communication team to close this match with a three-point lead in their favor, 75-72.

Earlier, the Manila Plaza team of Ghasan T. Attiya and Roger Bajenting looked forward to underline another triumph and made it as their opponent MetroBank/The Filipino Channel (TFC) team failed to show-up. This win awarded Armel Trambulo’s boyz with 2 wins (plus one unfinished match) and 1 loss with a hope to qualify and get a berth in the semifinal round.

The King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Center (KFSH&RC) team notched their third victory at the expense of the Jeraisy Furniture team. The whole ballgame favored the hospital team of coach Gannie Gabriel, but in fairness, the Furniture squad of Recto Marques delivered a close battle during the first canto. It was a good defense played by the KFSH&RC team forcing their opponent to make perimeter shootings. Randy dela Paz with Peter Gabriel and Von Concepcion supported their teammates with their defensive rebounds and power moves. Alex Cerro, Khalid Hammouri and Rino Tolentino led the Furniture team’s scoring spree while the winning team KFSH&RC, who concluded the ballgame with 67-50 scores featured Peter Gabriel, Von Concepcion, Bobby Vibal, and Randy dela Paz as their top scorers.

Yamaha Adawliah group added another feather to their cap as they stunned Kit Umali’s IPSR team, 93-78. The first and second canto scenario saw both teams scoring one after another as the young cagers of IPSR played confidently while Coach Lito Gutierrez of the Yamaha team gave them a good match but not from the start of the third quarter where he fielded his top quality cagers Rey Manigbas, Julius Morales, Arnel Aquino, Ric Paraiso, and Jeff Baybay to start the showdown. The Yamaha boyz concluded the third canto at 69-51 in their favor. Although quick moves were carried out by IPSR’s Gary Serapio, Bernard Manuel, Christer Umali, Kester Trinidad, and Mark Agahan, these were not enough to match the rebounds and inside play of the Yamaha cagers ending the ballgame with 15 points to their advantage.
