LARNACA, 16 July — Cyprus is all set for receiving travelers from the world over. The Mediterranean country’s national carrier, Cyprus Airways, is at the forefront of Cyprus’ burgeoning savvy image. Major fleet expansion is taking place and new uniforms, in-flight entertainment and livery have just been introduced. The beauty of Cyprus is that you are never too far away from things. “On occasions you can ski in the mountains in the morning and laze on the beach in the afternoon. The jetty at Paphos, a crossroads of culture for generations, is one of the truly wonderful spots to watch the world go by...slowly,” the airline stated. Cyprus, of course, has its major tourist attractions. Centuries of Greek culture and tradition, in conjunction with Roman, Venetian and Near East culture, have left behind a wealth of art and architecture. Ancient theaters and fortresses are among the many highlights. The mainstream attractions are well worth seeing and doing, but many may find greater appeal in the delightful traditional villages. Surveys show that the bulk of foreigners who buy property in Cyprus are retirees. The airline has stepped up promotions from the Gulf, particularly through its range of summer fares. These are in response to market demand.
