RIYADH, 24 September — Al-Shabab and Al-Qadsiyah sustained their winning sequence in the Group A of the Prince Faisal ibn Fahd Cup soccer tournament with contrasting victories on Sunday.
Al-Shabab, who lead the group with 16 points, once again turned in a dominant display to rout Al-Riyadh 3-0, while Al-Qadsiyah, who are placed on the second rung of the group with 15 points, doused a late stirring from Al-Nasr for a 2-1 victory. In the third group encounter, Al-Hilal dropped back in the battle for the group honors when they were held 2-2 by Al-Ittefaq.
Shabab were never really troubled in the Riyadh derby as they picked up goals at regular intervals in their romp. Abdul Aziz Al-Saaran (11th), Abdul Rahman Al-Asfur (30th) and Burj Maawadha (82nd) scored.
Qadsiyah rode out a later Nasr flurry on their two early strikes in Dammam. Abdou Hakami (48th) and Hani Al-Salem (56th) provided Qadsiyah with the cushion, and it proved enough as Nasr could pull only one back with a 80th minute Ali Yezid strike.
The other encounter, in Riyadh, between Hilal and Ittefaq proved pulsating as first Ittefaq and then Hilal squandered slim one-goal advantages. Ittefaq opened the scoring through Saleh Bashir in the 30th minute, but two goals within two minutes put Hilal on top. First Khaled Aziz restored parity in the 36th minute and then Hussein Ali hit Hilal’s second. But Bashir completed a fine day with his second goal for his side in the 55th minute as Ittefaq leveled the score 2-2 for a share of honors and points.
