DUBAI —Dubai had the most successful summer season ever attracting more than 400,000 tourists from GCC countries in the last three months, according to a report published by the Dubai Press Club. Some of the tourist information resources stated that Dubai was one of the destinations that had benefited because of the changes in tourism trends and the destinations which the Gulf tourists traditionally visit linked with the difficulty of getting a visa to the US and other European destinations. Hussain Lootah, deputy general manager of Tourism & Commerce Marketing, said: “The increase in tourists is not unexpected but has to do with the growth figures of the last few years. We’ve noticed that over the years Dubai has become an attractive tourist destination. The number of visiting tourists from the GCC countries has grown by two points in comparison to last year with the rate of development remaining the same.” Lootah added: “Prior statistics from studies on tourism conducted by the Dubai Department of Tourism & Commerce Marketing stated that aside from the tourists who chose Dubai for summer vacation, many of the GCC tourists who were going for vacation to destinations outside the Gulf also made a stopover in Dubai for a few days whether on their way to their chosen destination or while on their way back, and that illustrates two important points.
