JEDDAH, 24 October — Al-Hilal began its King Fahd Cup campaign with a 1-0 victory over Al-Raed while another Riyadh team Al-Nasr drew with Al-Ta’ie 2-2 in a veritable goalfest.
Today three matches have been scheduled, with Al-Ittihad at home against Al-Qadisiyah in Jeddah, Al-Najma taking on Al-Riyadh in Onaizah and Al-Sh’oala meeting the Prince Faisal ibn Fahd Cup winners Al-Ittefaq in Al-Kharj.
The first week will be rounded off with Al-Ahli playing Al-Shabab in Jeddah.
Al-Ittihad is expected to dominate today with three international players Bebeto, Babangida and Sergio all playing. Ittihad, playing on home territory and with its legion of fans backing it, is likely to prove too strong for Qadisiyah, who largely rely on counterattacks.
The match-winner for Hilal came in the 50th minute with Hussain Al-Ali being on target.
In the other encounter, Argentinean striker Christian secured a brace for Nasr, hitting home in the 31st and 44th minute. For Ta’ie Brazilian Celsio and Ahmed Manawer scored in the second and 28th minutes.
