JEDDAH, 25 October — Class ‘O’ bowler Roger Dacquioag blasted pocket strikes Lanes 13 and 14 of the Jeddah Bowling Center (JBC) as he led SPIC in claiming the first team of the week award at the start of the 4th Conference of the Tuesday Night Bowling League (TNBL) here at JBC. SPIC scored 69 points. With the assists of Mar Narvasa, Rene Martinez, Angel Decena and Dante Calapacia, Dacquioag immediately unwrapped his sterling shots and brought the series of SPIC to 940 equivalent to 15 points.

On the second game, the tandem of Dacquioag and Calapatia gave SPIC 18 points after scoring 216 and 258 pins. Calapatia’s sterling performance was the evening’s high game tournament record at seven strikes, and his score of 258 earned him his first entry card to the BBG Elite Bowlers’ Club.

Dacquioag unleashed his explosive shots on the final game. He bagged six strikes and scored a high 257 that energized his earlier scores to claim the first bowler of the week award at a 3-game series scratch of 700. His strong finish earned him his pass to the prestigious select Elite Club of BBG. Together with Ariel Urquia, Narvasa, Calapatia and Martinez supporting Dacquioag, SPIC produced 18 points (1048 pins) and the bonus of 18 for the series of 3012. Pitted against Zuhair Fayez partnership, PICPA-PRO snatched at the start the maximum 18 points when it registered a total score of 1026 including handicap (72 pins) thru the high games of Emil Payongayong, Toto Lim, Lindo Villanueva, Paul Antiporda and Gil Martos.

Zuhair Fayez was equally strong with PICPA-PRO and would have cracked down the strong defenses of the latter with Rio Diaz, Emer Altre, Salic Mudag and Cris Villavelez on the front line but Lito Zamudio bogged down and met walls of splits. In spite of Lito’s low game, however, Zuhair Fayez has yet managed to swipe 988 pins and collected 17 points.

PICPA-PRO remained on top of the pack for the top team award with a running score of 34 points after earning 16-point credits (979) from the ledgers of Villanueva, Lim and Antiporda on the second set. On the final match, however, the ‘accountants’ went gasping with their breath when two of their best players produced dismal scores. After all scores were tallied, PICPA was credited with merely 5 points and it summed up to 55 points including the bonus of 16 points for their series (2910).

Top Gun and Cab Fare had a nerve-wrecking match against each other on Lanes 11 and 12. The fiery exchange of marks intensified on the remaining three frames of the last game that any wrong move would cause one to bite the others dust. When the crackling of pins had stopped and the scores were tabulated, Top gun shot 2890 pins and was awarded with 58 points. Cab Fare flagged down 63 points for rolling off 2946 in three games.

Cab Fare quintet of Larry Santos, Mar Cabrera, Jun Pilipina, Ed Ferrer and Boy Casio had a big edge over Top gun on the second game after delivering 1013 pins (17 points). In another pair of lanes, Al-Zamil Heavy Industries produced 22 points, Thunderball roared 20 points, SkyFreight Forwarders picked up 44, LVNJ Ball fired 39, Speed Sports Club went away with 43.5 points, Al-Alamiah Insektos munched 41 points. Tuesday Spoilers (Panggulo) shot 16 points, Comfort Fabric Softener collected 33 points, Otra Cosa posted 48 points, EL team drilled 50 points, International had 30.5 while Seiko-PNB team deposited 13 points.

Jimboy Almoro of Cab Fare was the lucky winner of the Olympus Camera during the raffle draw. In a related development, The Brotherhood Bowling Group (BBG) and the Filipino Tenpin Bowlers of Jeddah (FTBJ) are pleased to announce that the 2002 OFW Worldwide Balikbayan Open Tournament will roll off on Dec. 27 (Friday) at the Filinvest (Fiesta Mall) Bowling Center, Alabang, Metro Manila. The champion will receive 100,000 Pesos, the first runner-up will pocket 50,000 Pesos while the second runner-up will purse 30,000 Pesos.

There are prizes for the fourth up to the 10th placers. The top qualifier during the qualifying round will receive 5,000 Pesos while the bowler who sets the tournament high game will bring home 5,000 Pesos. The bowler who scores a perfect 300 game during the qualifying round will receive 10,000 Pesos and 20,000 pesos during the step-ladder finals.
