RIYADH, 25 October — The unheralded Gabby Javier made his dream come true when he nipped the experienced and veteran Class A bowler Ave Tena in a two-game series showdown in the penultimate game to emerge as FAL Summer Open champion held at the FAL Bowling Center recently.
Javier, who works diligently at the Saudi American Bank defeated Benjie Lorenzo and Dante Prado in a one-game series in the first stepladder match final. Lorenzo and Prado, the fifth and third finishers after the 6 games rolled in the semifinal scored 158 and 185 while Javier had 194.
Javier continued his winning form in the next stepladder match to humble Saudi Arabia’s national player, Rashid Al-Faraj, the 2nd finisher. The first game between the top finisher Ave Tena and Javier resulted at 212 — 182, with Tena winning the first match. In the second game, the breaks went to Javier to beat Tena with a score of 159 — 182.
Javier’s handicap of 12 helped him to beat Tena in the total two game series (377 — 371) to romp-away the title. For his feat, Javier went home with a juicy cash prize of SR5,000 and elegant trophy. Likewise, Tena won SR3,000 and a trophy and a cash SR300 for being the top qualifier in Class A. Rashid Al-Faraj received SR1,500 while Prado and Lorenza got SR1,000 and SR500 and a trophies. The top five finishers in each class in the quarterfinal round: Class A — Ave Tena, Yasser Abu Elreesh, Rashid Al-Faraj and Solaiman Jesusco.
Class B — Noli Ritual, Yuli Braganza, Yasser Muhamamd, Dante Prado and Babes Nival. Class C — Allan dela Rosa, Benjie Lorenzo, Jell Tan, Rudy Flores and Marvin Arocena. Class D — Gabby Javier, Gigi Enriquez, Rey Dominguez, Arnel Gordovez and AJ Bonifacio. Remaining bowlers who made it in the top 20: Rey Dominguez, Arnel Gordovez, Rudy Flores, Jell Tan, Babes Nival, Noli Ritual, Allan dela Rosa, Marvin Arocena, Yasser Muhammad, Gigi Enriquez, Ahmed Al-Hadian, Solaiman Jesusco, and AJ Bonifacio. Khaled Hamod, Proprietor of the FAL Bowling Center and the sponsor of the event awarded the prizes to the winners.
