RIYADH, 25 October — It was a day to remember as eight (8) prestigious hospitals in Riyadh paraded their respective teams at the opening of the RKH-MHBA 1st Inter-Hospital Basketball Tournament dubbed as the "Program Director’s Cup 2002".

Participating Hospitals were the Riyadh Armed Forces Hospital (RKH), Dr. Al-Mishari Hospital, Specialized Medical Center Hospital (SMCH), King Saud University/King Khaled University Hospital (KSU/KKUH), Habib Medical Center Hospital, Prince Sultan Cardiac Center (PSCC), Kingdom Hospital and Sultan ibn Abdulaziz Humanitarian City Hospital (SBAHC).

MHBA President Ernie Calubayan delivered the welcome address followed by an inspirational message from Capt. Fahad Hassan Hejiri who conveyed his heartfelt gratitude for the support extended by RKH program director, Maj. Gen. Dr. Khalaf Al Moutaery in staging the RKH-MHBA 1st Inter-Hospital Basketball Tournament being held at the newly built RKH Sky Dome Court.

Noel Santos , MHBA Project Director & emcee together with Jess Vinluan MHBA EVP, introduced the guest of honor, Hon. Angel Borja welfare officer POLO/OWWA, followed by a short but very inspiring talk by Dr. Muhammad Ali Astillero, the leader of OFW Basketball League in Riyadh.

Coach — Jamal Buhairi, Hospital Coordinators- Joey Canillas & Edmon Regalado. Kingdom Hospital Team: Hospital Coordinators-Willie Boligao, Moses Pascual & Carlo Navasca Head Coach Wilie Boligao. Sultan Bin Abdul Aziz Humanitarian City Hospital team: Hospital coordinators Edgar Gamboa and Ruoel APHIO‚ Bustarga.

Game No. 1 — RKH 84 vs. Al-Mishari — 80 — Rex Capati contributed 20 big points, 6 rebounds 1 assist to lift his team in a fine performance win against Al-Mishari Hospital team in the first game of MHBA-RKH 1st Inter-Hospital Program Director Cup 2002 being held at the RKH Sky Dome Court.

RKH team Manager & Head Coach Don Jaime Jimmy‚ Nepomuceno fielded strong first five, Fahad Hejiri, Rex Capati, Dave Gana, Robert Acierto & Rey Manigbas pulled out a 2 points advantage at 17-15 scores at 1st Quarter buzzer end, However, Al-Mishari Hospital team Dr. Muhammad Ali Astillero, Head Coach Jun Pacheco Fielded Eldon Alforque, Joel Diego, Nonoy Esquera, Salac and Adriane Roble took the lead at 44 29, A 15 points margin at 2nd Quarter buzzer end. Maintained lead at a 12 points advance at 68-56 scores against RKH team at 4th Quarter.

RKH team employed a man to man defense countering the Al-Mishari w/a fast break play with 55 seconds remaining, Rey Manigbas pulled a quick jumper to tied the scores at 80-80 all.

With 22 second for the final period Dong Reyes D‚ Magician RKH veteran point guard dished a foul from Nestor Alforque of Al-Mishari Hospital Given 2 free shots but never scored, however Eric Villatema of RKH team tipped in the miss by Dong Reyes taking a 82-80 scores then Rex Capati scored his final scores at 84-80, during the dying seconds.

Game No. 2 — SMC Hospital — 93 vs. KKUH/KSU — 75, Robert Vashani, Edmon Regalado, Mike Placino & Jamal Buhaire of Specialized Med. Center Hospital scored double digit a piece pulling away with their first win against KKUH.

Team Manager Bassam Shaheen, was very happy with the way the Filipino and the Middle East Expats complemented the team play & a balance attack scoring surprising the team manager of KKUH Roel Langit & Head Coach Zaldy Braza with a 93 75 scores at the final buzzer.
