JEDDAH, 25 October — Local favorites Al-Ittihad outfought Qadsiya 1-0 in the King Fahd Cup here last night.
Hasan Al-Yami, after receiving the pass from Nigerian striker Babangida, scored the winner.
Ittihad dominated the field throughout the game. Qadsiya tried hard to overcome the deficit but they failed to break the barrier. Al-Sho’ala surprised Al-Ittefaq, winners of Prince Faisal ibn Fahd Cup by beating them 3-2 in a thriller in another match of the day played in Al-Kharj
Nawaf Al-Daajani struck twice for the winners. He scored the first in the 7th and the other in the 67th minute. Claudeo scored the third goal in the 91st minute.
For Ittefaq Hamad Al-Isa and Saleh Bashir scored in the 36th and 60th minutes. But Sho’ala proved their superiority.
Meanwhile, Riyadh beat Al-Najma 1-0 in another match in Unaizah. Faisal Marzouk scored the winner for Riyadh.
Two red cards were issued in the process. Adel Fareehadi of Najma and Omar Taraure of Riyadh sent home.
FIFA president Blatter to stand down in 2006
In Zurich, Sepp Blatter has said he will stand down from his role as FIFA president in 2006, reports Reuters. Blatter, who will be 70 in 2006, said in an interview with the December issue of Sports Business magazine that he would leave at the end of his second four-year term as the head of soccer’s world governing body.
"I have said I am in the second half of the football game," Blatter told Sport Business. "From the very beginning I said my presidency will not be more than two mandates.
"I am now in the second mandate and at the end of it I will be 70 years old. I think it will be the correct time then to leave the organization."
