JEDDAH, 1 November — The SPIC team of Rene San Pedro blasted JBC with solid hits and again topped the list of gaineers on the second week of the BBG Tuesday Night League here at the Jeddah Bowling Center.
SPIC drilled a series of 3040 in three games and snatched its 2nd team award at a score of 63.5 points.
Playing against the squad of Comfort Fabric Softeners, the SPIC triumvirate of Dante Calapatia (244), Angel Decena (219) and Roger Dacquioag (206) immediately unleashed their best shots, scored 17 points on the first game (1034).
Raul de los Reyes (224), Joey Salvador (203) and Ver Luz (197) of Comfort Fabric Softener were putting up their best shots against the three stalwarts of SPIC but the quality of their games could only swipe 996 pins equivalent to 16 points.
Whilst the two powerhouse teams exchanged marks, Otra Cosa was putting up its best show on Lanes 13 and 14 against Top Gun.
When the smoke of the gun ebbed, Otra Cosa collected the maximum 18 points with Jess Pineda, Val Magsino, Benjie Cils, Danny Cofreros and Mixi Lechuga flexing their muscles for 1044 pins including handicap. On the second game, SPIC tied with Al Alamiah Insektos at a score of 1051 and shared the top spot at 17.5 points apiece.
SPIC capitalized on the high 245 game of Ariel Urquia and the assists of Dacquioag (222), Rene Martinez (208), Decena (189) and Calapatia (187). Al Alamiah banked on the prowess of Nonie Yap (219), Zaldy Parinas (212), Hashim Guinomla (208), Mao Orolfo (195) and team captain Arnold C. Alday (217).
The Tuesday Spoilers and PICPA-PRO also shared points after submitting identical scores (994) for 13.5 points each. The ‘spoilers’ relied on the pair of Danny Manriza (238) and Danny Bautista (204). The ‘accountants’ earned the credits through the tandem of Toto Lim (225) and Paul Antiporda (218).
From a dismal 8 at the start of the match, Al Saddiq team, formerly known as the EL Team and led by Ed Labuac, accelerated their search for additional points. The quintet of Herman Austria (237), Alex Flora (229), Ador Torres (211), Andy Erena (194) and Ramiz Ayoub (142) unwrapped their impressive pendulum swings and raked 15 points at a score of 1009 pins. On the final stretch, Torres rocked the lanes with his unprecedented accuracy, hit five strikes and scored a high 242.
Fortified by the sterling assists of Alex Flora (228) and Andy Erena (228), Al Saddiq put up an impressive finale, tallied 1059 for the big 18 points. The strong finish on the last game brought their 3-game series to 2953 (17 points) and it propelled Al Saddiq to win the prize of the 2nd team award at a total score of 58 points.
SPIC, which has 63.5 points, was no longer entitled to received the prize in accordance with the existing rules. LVNJ Ball quintet of Leo Pangilinan (230), Vic Santos (166), Jerriel Cacao (241), Lavern Laderas (216) and Leo Laygo (188) were also hitting Brooklyn strikes that earned them 17 points (1041). With a total of 2946 (16 points), LVNJ became a contender of the award but when all points were tapered down, they were short by two points (56) behind Al Saddiq (58). Comfort Fabric Softeners collected 1,030 for 16 points and summed up their total score to 53 after adding the 15 bonus points. SkyFreight Forwarders loaded 27 points in their clash against Al Alamiah Insektos (49.5). Speed Sports Club ran away with 26 points while Al Zamil Heavy Industries produced 37. Thunderball fired 37 points. PICPA-PRO earned 43.5 point credits while Seiko/PNB team registered 11. Top Gun shot 47. Otra Cosa scored 50. Tuesday Spoilers brought home 46.5 points while the opposing Cab Fare flagged down 37. The International Team and Zuhair Fayez Partnership submitted to the table identical points (19).
Bonnie Garcia of Top Gun was the surprised winner of the bowler of the week award. His series was 685 including the 16 pins handicap per game. Garcia scored 202, 205 and 203. Ver Luz and Roger Abantas were winners of consolation prizes for converting into spare the 5-10 split. Rio Diaz and Rico Nery were winners of special prizes for conjuring into spare the 4-10-7 split. Salic Mudag of Zuhair Fayez Partnership won a dinner certificate courtesy of the Westin Jeddah thru Sales Manager Rizwan Karim Chohan.

OFW Worldwide Balikbayan Tourney
In a related development, the Brotherhood Bowling Group (BBG) and the Filipino Tenpin Bowlers of Jeddah (FTBJ) are pleased to announce that the 2002 OFW Worldwide Balikbayan Open Tournament will roll off on Dec. 27 (Friday) at the Filinvest (Fiesta Mall) Bowling Center, Alabang, Metro Manila. The champion will receive 100,000 Pesos, the first runner-up will pocket 50,000 pesos while the second runner-up will purse 30,000 pesos. There are prizes for the fourth up to the 10th placers. The top qualifier during the qualifying round will receive 5,000 pesos while the bowler who sets the tournament high game will bring home 5,000 pesos.
The bowler who scores a perfect 300 game during the qualifying round will receive 10,000 pesos and 20,000 pesos during the step-ladder finals. Registration starts from 7:00 through 9:00 a.m. Roll off time is 9:45 The fee is 2,500 Pesos inclusive of an exclusive souvenir t-shirt and lunch for the participants.

PAMASKONG PALARO 2002 The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, in cooperation with the Philippine Sports Commission, has announced that there will be the “Pamaskong Palaro 2002” in Manila.
The games are scheduled on Dec. 16 through 18, 2002 at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex, Manila. Entered for competition are bowling, dart, chess, lawn tennis and table tennis. OWWA shall head the steering committee, which shall manage the organization of participating teams including the screening and registration of competitors and other participants. PSC shall head the technical committee, which shall include game management and provision of venue and facilities for the events. According to the dispatch received from Manila through the office of OWWA Director Marianito Roque, the competition is open to all vacationing Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) — land and sea-based — who are physically fit, including one member of his/her immediate family.
OFWs residing in the province may register at any OWWA Regional Office nearest them. Residents of Metro Manila may register at the Pamaskong Palaro Secretariat, OWWA, Pasay City. Those who are abroad may register at the OWWA office of the Philippine Embassy.
In Riyadh, OWWA Supervising Welfare Officer Angel Borja, Jr. will confirm and submit to the Pamaskong Palaro 2002 Secretariat the names of the area’s official participants. All registration forms should be in or submitted to the Games Secretariat by Nov. 15. Registration forms submitted beyond the deadline will no longer be accepted. Six male and six female players are required in bowling and in table tennis.
