RIYADH, 1 November — Manggagawang Kapit Bisig (MKB) recently launched the 7th Conference Basketball Tournament being held at New Seder Village, Bhaglaf, Riyadh Area.
The MKB Executive Officers spearheaded by MKB President — Antonio N. Apolto, Exe. Vice-Pres.– Jimmy D. Ducado, Internal Vice-Pres.– Romeo Fernandez, External Vie Pres.- Roberto Ablid, Gen. Sec. – Guiller B. Ladera, Sec. – Rosie Abad, Treasurer – Jose Tapan, Asst. Treasurer - Felix Ordanza, Auditor – Alfredo Simblante Jr., Auditor – Rommel Galivo, Bus. Manager – Jaime B. Amaro Jr., Luzviminda Manarang Ludy Nabong, PRO – Ms. Payapa Laudato & Honorio Sim, Muse – Ann Tumali Commissioner of Palaro - Victor Gonzales, ably assisted by Rommel Calivo – Committee Chairman and Nelson Enriquez. Board of Director – Nilo Soriano, Victor Soriano, Rey Catapia, Renato Candor & Danny Walin and the Advisers – Rolly Sulit, Resty Delos Santos, Noel Valderama, Manny Ventura and Consular General Gary Domingo.
For a brief introduction, MKB is an association primarily organized, for the purpose of helping distressed kababayan by giving out financial aid, sacks of rice, canned goods, and other items to stranded OFWs at the OWWA Office – Riyadh. MKB was established in 1996 and accredited with the Philippines Embassy since.
Mrs. Carmelita Hidalgo of Labor Attaché for Sports and Cultural Affairs graced the opening as the guest of honor and tossed the ball for the opening game.
Six teams are participating the tournament namely; Barangay 1 (Black Team), Barangay 2 (White Team), Barangay 3 (Blue Team), Barangay 4 (Green Team), Barangay 5 (Violet Team), and last but not the least Barangay 6 (Maron Team).
The opener was played between Barangay 2 vs. Barangay 5, which was won easily by Barangay 2 with a score of 108-90. Noel Basilio was the leading scorer for the Barangay 2 for 38 points, and was awarded the best player of the evening with a consolation prize of a traveling bag courtesy by Philippine Airlines. In another match, Barangay 3 won against Barangay 4 with a score of 107-84. It was an evening full of suspense and excitement as the game progressed. Aside from the basketball match, there were some activities for ladies guests to participate in a “FREE THROW” shootout, Ms. Ludy Nabong won for a score of 2 points, and was also given a bag courtesy by Philippine Airlines.
The sponsors or the tournament are: Philippine Airlines, WRJ Cargo, Sport Ghornatha, Al Safi Dairy Co. Ltd., Global Cargo Forwarder and Al Mohr Cargo among others.
The matches are being played at the same venue every Friday at 4:30 p.m. It will last until end of November where the finalists will vie for the title.
