JEDDAH, 21 December 2002 — Al-Ittihad romped to a 4-1 victory over Al-Najma in the King Fahd Cup soccer tournament to sustain their lead in the event.
Ittihad, playing in Unaizah yesterday, went ahead just before the interval with Brazilian Marino converting a penalty.
Ittihad soon increased the scoring through Marzouk Al-Otaibi in the 49th minute, Al-Hasan Al-Yami in the 51st minute and Manaf Abu Shoqair in the 71st minute with Ishaq Kawaki pulling one back for Najma.
With this win Ittihad now have 22 points and are three points ahead of Al-Hilal, while Najma has just one point.
In another match, Al-Qadisiya downed Al-Tai'e 3-0. Edelton struck two goals, the first and the third, for Qadisiya in the 18th and 83rd minutes while the second Qadisiya goal was scored by Saleh Al-Shahrani in the 31st minute. The win vaulted Qadisiya to the second position. Al-Tai'e is in the fifth position with 12 points.
Al-Ittifaq and Al-Nasr played out a goalless draw in the other match yesterday. Nasr now have eight points while Ittifaq have five.
