ALKHOBAR, 24 December 2002 — The Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers, Eastern Province chapter held its 3rd Anniversary along with the election of board of directors and a technical presentation at Park Hotel, Al-Khobar last Friday.

The event’s theme “Bridging Civil Engineers to Globalization towards Information Technology” was special and meaningful to the group as they celebrated their first anniversary as a PICE Chapter and third anniversary as an association.

Assistant Labor Attaché Atty. Jalilo dela Torre, who heads the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) Eastern Region Operations and Mr. Sotero ‘Boy’ Tornea, Welfare Officer of OWWA, were the guest speakers.

Atty. dela Torre urged the PICE-EPSA and other OFW professional organizations to take advantage of the new and exciting possibilities in the information technology.

“The POLO will be your active partner in ensuring that the momentum that we have created with our several initiatives in promoting ICT within the Filipino community as an effective medium for integration and for enhancing the employability of Filipinos in the Kingdom in particular and in the Middle East in general, will not be lost,” Dela Torre said in his speech.

Atty. dela Torre further announced that on February 20-21, 2003, Filipino Information and Communication Technology (ICT) professionals from all over the Middle East will converge in Holiday Inn Al-Khobar for the first-ever Middle East Filipino ICT Convention. Engr. Fernando A. Bibat, the chapter’s president, said that IT programs of PICE-EPSA are the equally important technical presentations on modern civil engineering products and services.

“We have to keep in pace with modern technology. PICE-EPSA endeavors to provide a bridge to its members to competitiveness by arming them with needed skills in computer aided civil engineering applications,” Bibat said. (Romeo O. Navidad)
