RIYADH, 27 December 2002 — Up-coming bowler Benjie Domado, Ben Timpog and R. Labo bagged the prestigious Master’s Cup of the FOBR Ramadan Goodwill Games held at the two bowling centers here with the support of Philippine Airlines through country manager Jun Ordillano. Domadao fired a double strike on the last frame of the second set of the twice-to beat stepladder final games held at the Riyadh Inter-Continental Hotel, scored 233 while challenger Leo Mabunga hit 213. At Al-Khozama, Ben Timpog immediately routed challenger Arcie Consolacion at the start of the match to claim the master’s title in Division ‘A’.

The final score was registered at 215-195. R. Labo was the Division ‘B’ master’s champion after clobbering F. Cayde on the second and final game of the championship round (260-231).

Labo suffered an initial defeat at the score of 185-203. In the first game of the master’s championship round at Inter-Con, Mabunga heavily clobbered Domado when the latter met walls of splits (208-159). After Domado fired a double strike on the first two frames, he regained composure while his confidence resurrected to a new height.

The thrilling exchange of marks brought the final game down-the-wire when Domado won with a two-mark advantage (233-213). Fourth finisher Leo Mabunga earned the right to challenge top finalist Benjie Domado after he defeated fifth finalist RJ Sriprom at the start of the stepladder finals (205-187).

Mabunga continued his winning streak, crushed third finalist Wilson Bacala (186-166) and he routed second finisher Oca Bernabe at a score of 222-202. Master’s champion Benjie Domado received a cash prize, the prestigious trophy and the microwave oven from FOBR chairman Aurel Farinas.

First runner-up winner Leo Mabunga was also awarded a cash prize and the vacuum cleaner. Oca Bernabe received a cash prize for the second runner-up award and the electric blender.

Third runner-up winner Wilson Bacala received a cash prize and the electric Griller while JR Sriprom, the 4th runner-up finisher, went home with a cash prize and a gift item. Domado topped the list of finalists in the master’s event with a 6-game series of 1284 while challenger Leo Mabunga finished 4th at a total score of 1243. Oca Bernabe was at the second position with 1276, Wilson Bacala was on third at 1262 while JR Sriprom was on the fifth place at 1227. In the 5-man team event, the Power Access team captained by Benjie Domado cornered the championship after it registered a 4-game series of 4590.

Power Access submitted 1138, 1043, 1098 and 1111 on games one through four, respectively, through Rico Feria (787), Willie de Mesa (836), Art Palustre (765), JB Valerio (657), Ver Cayago (750) and Domado (771). Plywac Strikers, mentored by Pep Maghinay (735) and composed of Leo Mabunga (810), Yuli Braganza (707), Cris Crisostomo (840), Noli Ritual (687) and Arnold Bellen (784), took the first runner-up title with a series of 4563. MIB team of Jing Sahagun (747), Oca Bernabe (798), Wilson Bacala (803), Edgar Buenaventura (703), Larry Mondoy (759) and Benny Mondoy (734) pocketed the second runner-up award with a series of 4545. In the 3-man team event, the powerful trio of Rico Feria, Art Palustre and Benjie Domado of Power Access won the title over the pursuer Arnel Garlan , Jojo Demetrio and JR Sriprom of Chilled Out team by merely six pins. Power Access submitted 2441 while the Chilled Out had 2435.

Plywac Strikers triumvirate of Pep Maghinay, Leo Mabunga and Cris Crisostomo finished third with a score of 2368. Mags Bongkarawan and Benjie Galicia of the Philippine Embassy captured the Double’s Event with a score of 1629. Plywacs duo of Yuli Braganza and Noli Ritual finished second at 1585.

Cas Encila and Marvin Arocena of Squad D emerged third after posting a total of 1569. Two bowlers of Plywac Strikers finished one and two in the Single’s Event.

Arnold Bellen cornered the title with a 5-game series of 1073. His scores were 200, 211, 202, 206 and 179, which were fortified by his 15-pin handicap per game.

Cris Crisostomo got the second place with a total score of 1063 including handicap (75).

Power Access skipper Benjie Domado came in third at 1031. Cris Crisostomo took the gold in the All Events with a 17-game series of 3438 including the handicap of 15 pins per game. Rod Basilio of the Square D Team snatched the silver with a combined total of 3417. Jojo Demetrio of the Chilled Out team bagged the bronze with a series of 3359.

In Division ‘B’, P. Kambouris of the Chilled Out team snatched the top prize with a series of 3151. A. Arenas of the Philippine Embassy was second at 3144 while ABB Tribe’s M. Honculada was third at 3127. The Top 24 bowlers who advanced to the 6-game series semifinal round were Jing Sahagun, Raul Medina, Cris Crisostomo, Joel Alegre, Noli Ritual, Nestor Ranido, Larry Mondoy, Rod Basilio, Mags Bongcarawan, Rico Feria, Arnel Garlan, Art Palustre, Willie de Mesa, Benjie Galicia, Yuli Braganza, Arnold Bellen, Jojo Demetrio, Celis Viloria, Peps Maghinay, Sriprom, Mabunga, Bacala, Bernabe and Domado.

The high game (scratch) record of the tournament was set by Pep Maghinay at 257. Ben Timpog and R. Labo were the master’s champion in Division ‘A’ and ‘B’, respectively, of another FOBR Ramadan Goodwill Games held at the Al Khozama Bowling Center sponsored by the Philippine Airlines and Al Khozama Hotel here. Top finalist Timpog blasted the challenges of fourth placer Arcie Consolacion at the first round of the championship match in the stepladder finals (215-195). Consolacion advanced to challenge Timpog after he brushed aside in a cliff-hanger match fifth finalist Joe Rafael (178-174), nipped third placer Rodel Huiden in a one-sided game (220-186) and drubbed second finalist Freddie Aquino at a score of 210-195.

In Division ‘B’, R. Labo clobbered F. Cayde on the second game of the twice-to- beat championship round (260-231) after suffering an initial defeat at the score of 185-203. Cayde challenged R. Labo after ending the winning streak of fifth finalist B. Danganan (203-185), who earlier routed fourth placer F. Ricalde (184-1786), and third finalist D. Ponsaran (171-167). Top 14 in Division ‘A’ and Top 10 in Division ‘B’ advanced to the master’s event after each bowler has played 17 games.

Division ‘A’ semifinalists were Boy Fogata, Jun Evangelista, Pido Villarosa, Jun Manalili, Bert Garduque, Andy Altea, Ronnie Cayde, Arcie Consolacion, Freddie Aquino, Jun Balubayan, Joe Rafael. Rodel Huidem, Rey Dela and Ben Timpog.

V. Vitug, L. de la Cruz, D. Ponsaran, C. Mendoza, F. Ricalde, R. Labo, F. Cayde, B. Danganan, L. Decasa and P. Nave were semifinalists in Division ‘B’. The Stingers bagged the team event with a 4-game series of 4608.

Dennis Buen fired 729, Boy Fogata shot 751, Arcie Consolacion swept 756, Ronnie Cayde drilled 814 while F. Cayde and L. de la Cruz sniped 797 and 761, respectively. K2B team finished second with a series of 4528. Jun Evangelista (832), Efren Castro (731), Pido Villarosa (719), Jimmy Ocampo (748), V. Vitug (690) and D. Ponsaran (808) powered the team to the fore. Rock & Roll danced on the third slot with a total of 4502.

The members include Freddie Aquino (771), Nigel Bennett (724), Dave Brooks (811), Cesar de Mesa (756), D. Lledo (668) and F. Ricalde (772). Winners in the All Events: Division ‘A’ — Ben Timpog won the gold at 3405, Rey Dela took the silver at 3341 while Rodel Huidem snatched the bronze at a series of 3334. P. Nave pocketed the gold in Division ‘B’ at a series of 3374.

L. Decasa went home with the silver at 3316 and B. Danganan pursed the bronze at 3311. Bert Garduque romped away the gold in the Singles’ Event of Division ‘A’ with a 5-game series of 1056. Rodel Huidem finished second at 1021; Andy Altea brought home the bronze at 1006.

P. Nave (1039), J. Estanislao (997) and L. Decasa (994) were awarded with the gold, silver and bronze medals in Division ‘B’, respectively. The pair of Ben Timpog and Jun Manalili were champions in the Double’s Event of Division ‘A’ with a combined score of 1619.

Bong Solomon and L. Decasa finished second at 1579 while the tandem of Joe Rafael and Rene Pajimola came in third at 1578. The triumvirate of Abdulrahman Burhani, Rodel Huidem and P. Nave was crowned champions in the trio event after submitting 2335.

B. Danganan, Andy Altea and Joe Rafael were second at 2329 while Efren Castro, Pedo Villarosa and V. Vitug were third at 2312. The Ramadan Goodwill Games 2002 held at the bowling lanes of Riyadh Inter-Continental Hotel and Al-Khozama Hotel was a project of the Filipino Overseas Bowlers of Riyadh (FOBR) under the current chairmanship of Aurel Farinas.

Philippine Airlines, through country manager Jun Ordillano, supported FOBR by providing PAL bags and gift items to the winners. In a related development, FOBR will host the 2002 Hajj Goodwill Games to be held at the Al-Khozama Bowling Center.

The Games are under the auspices of the Philippine Embassy through the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration of the Philippine Overseas Labor Office.
