JEDDAH, 29 December 2002 — Holders Saudi Arabia will take on Bahrain in the final of the Prince Faisal ibn Fahd Soccer Tournament for the Arab Cup tomorrow in Kuwait.

Kingdom downed Morocco 2-0 yesterday with captain Abdullah Al-Wakid and Talal Al-Mishaal being on target on the either side of the break, while Bahrain advanced with a 2-1 verdict over Jordan.

The Saudi players, who came out with renewed vigor to give their coach Gerard van der Lem a much-needed boost, made the best of the two opportunities that came in their way.

Van der Lem, 50, suffered a heart attack and was taken to hospital here. His condition was not immediately known, according to SPA. Dutch trainer Martin Koopman filled in for Van der Lem.

Saudi Arabia went on the offensive from the word go, and Wakid’s lightning shot from 30 meters out shot past a stranded Moroccan goalkeeper Tariq Al-Garmouny in the 20th minute. Morocco could have gained an equalizer in the first half when Ridwan Al-Wardi’s corner kick was met head on by Othman Al-Naenae’s. But the redirected shot thudded on the cross bar and the rebound was easily cleared.

Mishaal then increased the score in the 56th minute by hitting home the second. Muhammad Noor effected a long pass to Mishaal, who was left unchecked. His streaking skidder just slipped through the right hand of the Moroccan goalkeeper to seal Saudi Arabia’ victory.

The Saudi team then restricted the match to a midfield battle with some intricate passes, by running down the clock rather than increasing the tally.

In the second semifinal, Bahrain sent Jordan packing with two late goals in just three minutes. Hussein Ali, who came on as an substitute in the 85th minute, scored both the goals for Bahrain in the three minutes before the final whistle.

His first in the 87th minute canceled out the Jordanian lead. Jordan’s goal was scored by Anas Al-Zaboun in the 43rd minute. Then Hussein struck in the 90th minute to dash Jordan’s hopes.

SPA adds: Prince Sultan ibn Fahd, chief of the Youth Welfare Presidency announced that the Prince Faisal ibn Fahd Cup for Arab Clubs will be held in Jeddah instead of its two original venues of Casablanca and Fez in Morocco on its scheduled time of Jan. 17 to Feb. 2. The change in venue was necessitated following heavy rains and floods at the two cities.
