JEDDAH, 3 January 2003 — An engineer at the agricultural department in Asir province was arrested on charges of receiving a bribe of SR25,000 from a farmer for granting him a land title deed, according to Al-Watan newspaper.
After receiving a tipoff from the farmer, investigation officials laid a trap for the engineer. The officials arranged with the farmer to give the bribe at a pre-determined time when plainclothes officials would be present nearby. The corrupt engineer fell in the trap and was caught red-handed.
The engineer was involved in another dishonest act earlier in which he forged a report to steal some animals belonging to the agricultural department. In the report, he said that 15 cows in a government farm had died. He had in fact sold the cows.
