MANAMA, 13 January 2003 — Three Saudi nationals held in Bahrain over the New Year’s riots were released yesterday with a bail of 100 Bahraini dinars ($387) but not allowed to travel. The three were among a group of ten youngsters who appeared in Bahrain’s high criminal court on charges relating to the riots. All have pleaded not guilty and still face trial. Two Bahrainis were also released yesterday on the same bail. Bahrain’s King Hamad stressed on Saturday that the New Year riots must never happen again and were alien to Bahraini society. Dozens were arrested during riots in which hundreds of hooligans attacked Gulf tourists, including those from the Kingdom, damaged cars and smashed hotel windows on a busy Manama street. (DPA)
