JEDDAH, 19 January 2003 — Municipal authorities in Jeddah will enforce a new regulation under which heavy fines will be slapped on building owners for draining sewage into streets, Al-Madinah newspaper reported yesterday. Mayor Abdullah Al-Muallami called on the property owners to avoid the problem by carrying routine maintenance in their buildings. He warned them to solve the problem immediately and make sure that it would not recur. If they failed to do so, monetary fines will be imposed, he added.
