JEDDAH, 21 January 2003 — Municipal officials impounded more than 3,423 kilograms of food items found to be unfit for human consumption from a number of stores in various parts of Jeddah, Al-Madinah newspaper reported yesterday. The officials registered many cases of violations by storeowners. They closed down 64 stores for failing to meet safety requirements, registered 187 cases of violations and issued warnings to 123 storeowners, the paper said.
