RIYADH, 24 January 2003 — Carrier and Friends scored comfortable victories in the Super League matches in the Fuchs 40-over cricket tournament at Al-Sulay grounds, Riyadh. Syed Hasnain and Asif Kazmi guided Carrier to a win over Saudi Ericsson at RCA-2 ground.
Batting first Carrier helped by a swashbuckling 141 from Syed Hasnain and an unbeaten 109 by Asif Kazmi with 7 hits to the fence amassed a massive 347 for 4 in the stipulated overs. In reply Saudi Ericsson were bowled out for 210. Prashant (3/25) and Asif Kazmi (2/25) shared the bowling honors for Carrier.
At RCA-3 ground Friends C.C. recorded their third consecutive victory by beating SAMBA. Electing to bat first, SAMBA helped by some resolute batting down the order managed 234 in allotted overs. Jamil Khan topscored for SAMBA with 71. Jibreel Rana 28, Bilal Qureshi 45 were the other scorer’s for SAMBA. Saif-ur-Rehman of Friends took 4 wickets conceding 50 runs while Asif took 2 wickets by giving away 54 runs. Chasing a modest total Friends C.C. were given a flying start by their opening pair, Tanveer and Afzal.
Both batted well and scored 53 and 63 runs respectively. After their exit, Friends scored the required runs with 6 overs to spare. Shakeel Shah chipped in with a useful unbeaten 36. (Syed Taqiuddin)
