JEDDAH, 24 January 2003 — SEAT (Society for Environment, Architecture and Technology) inspired by openers Sadathullah and Maqbool Ali, beat JCL Executive Committee XI by 8 wickets in the festival match last weekend.
Before the start of the match, members of the Executive committee XI received new cricket kits containing the JCL history (1976-2003) from Captain Shahid Amin. While Seat members got T-shirts and caps from Shafiq Siddique and Mirza Ayub Baig of Jotun Paints. After winning the toss and elected to bat first, Ex. Com. XI scored 168 for the loss of 4 wickets in 18 overs.
Hamid Rana and Muhammad Naimullah who went in first were quite good. Hamid punished the ball whenever he got at it. Naim was very careful and simply blocked. Naim-17 was caught by Khalil Qazi off Maqbool Ali at mid on boundary when the partnership realized 54 runs.
Another hitter Ahmed Nadim Nadwi joined Hamid but kept a cool head. He was forced to return to the pavilion because of ribs cramps.
He scored 40 with the help of one six and two fours. Hamid retired after an elegant 83 (11 x 4) runs off 51 balls. Muhammad Iftikhar Hussain remained unbeaten with 13 runs.
Maqbool and Zaheer Siddiqui took one wicket each for 21 and 11 runs respectively. In reply as openers Sadathullah and Maqbool Ali, the most experience batsmen of SEAT rattled up 109 runs in 8 overs. Sadath’s aggressive innings of 68 off 29 balls with one six and 11 fours came to an end when he attempted a big hit off Ahsan Rafay and was stumped by Hamid Rana. A deviously deadly ball from Shahid Amin bowled Khalil Qazi for 4.
Maqbool made 68 not out (5 x 4) off 43 balls. And Ejaz Khan 21 not out. Ahsan Rafay and Shahid Amin captured one wicket each. (Syed M. Mussarat Khalil)
