RIYADH, 29 January 2003 — The Ministry of Education has dissolved the managing committee of Pakistan International School, Riyadh (PISR).
A communication regarding the dissolution of the board of directors was received by PISR Principal Majid Hussain, who has now been empowered to make arrangements for fresh board elections, said Abdul Azeem Shahzad, an outgoing member. The board’s term was to expire on Feb. 20.
This is the second time that the PISR’s director board has been dissolved by the Ministry of Education.
Principal Hussain, however, told Arab News yesterday that the board led by its chairman Dr. Shahid Nawaz Malik has not been dissolved and it is still functioning and working".
Of late, the PISR has been in the news for accusations of gross irregularities leveled by a group of parents.
An action committee formed by the parents earlier has accused the panel of financial irregularities, nepotism and autocratic handling of the school’s affairs.
The parents have also been demanding academic improvements. They criticized the school board, saying this year’s 10th standard examination results were a proof of poor performance. Only 426 out of 613 students passed. The result was the worst in the history of the school.
