JEDDAH, 2 February 2003 — The lives of more than 250 students are in jeopardy as their dilapidated school building in Baha is on the verge of collapse.
A technical committee has already reported that the Secondary and Intermediate school for Memorization of the Holy Qur’an in Baha is unsuitable for education.
But authorities have not taken any action to construct a new school building or move the students to a safer building.
Mohammed Abdullah, a parent, told Okaz daily that the building could cave in on students and teachers, especially in this rainy season.
The director of the school has reported the precarious condition of the building to the education department in the region.
The department subsequently advertised for a new building but did not follow it up. Mohammed Al-Ghamdi, a concerned parent, urged the education department to take quick action to solve the problem and save the children from danger.
Saeed Al-Ghamdi, director of girl’s education in Baha, told Okaz that his department was still looking for a suitable school building.
