ALKHOBAR, 7 February 2003 — Batang Rizal nipped Worley Arabia by 31 points margin, 100-79, in the OFW Congress Open Basketball Tournament held at the Al-Ettifaq Sports Club.

Batang Rizal won with five players pumping in winning goals led by Baltazar, the Chowking best player of the game.

Julaton, Resus, Vinluan, and De Asis supported Baltazar by outscoring the helpless Worley Arabia. Boy Sese and Jun-Jun Villarubia carried the cudgels for Worley scoring 29 points and 25 points respectively. Batang Rizal had Baltazar with 24 points, followed by Julaton 15, Vinluan 11, De Asis 9 and Junatas with 8 points.

The Philippine Community School in Dammam tasted its first win over the winless Rahima Academy. The organizing and technical committee defaulted Rahima for not showing up after a grace period of 15 minutes. PhilCosa has one win against two losses after its defeat from the camps of IPSA and PSD which are both sporting two wins and no loss cards.

RS Components bounced back from their heartbreaking loss last week by defeating Sipco-Finex, 87-74. Five RSC players including their top player, Bayona, scored in double figures. Bayona was assisted by Mendiola who collected 21 points. Other RS scorers were Valencia 18, Velarde 11 and Santos with 10. Chow King Best Player of the game was RSC’s Bayona. For the losing Sipco-Finex team, Rey Vedasto was the top scorer with 17 points.

General Dynamics continue on its winning streak romping Aujan Rani Team by 18 points, 94-76. It was General Dynamics third straight win with Bautista clutching the breakaway in the fourth quarter after a lethargic three quarters. Aside from Bautista, Edades and Daus also scored by perfect execution on one-on-one plays.

Bauyon of GD, also stole the limelight by scoring 11 points mostly on fast break plays. He dished out several assists to compliment GD’s breakaway during the last minutes of the fourth quarter. Chowking best players of the game were shared by Edades and Bautista. Both players scored 22 points apiece. For Aujan Rani, Ramil Enriquez collected 22 points while Samuel Dano had 13 points. PTA-IPSA survived a blistering attack staged by Saipem in the last three minutes of the game and hung on to win 66-59.

Ho scored 21 points followed by Gabayoyo and Rebis with 17 points apiece. Saipem had 4 players in double figures – Disomangcop 12, Ramos & Dearao 12 each and Masagca 10 points. NESMA finally entered into the winning column by edging Barangay Sauditel, 68-63, in the battle of winless teams. Providing the firepower was NESMA’s Baroma, with 18 points to lead all scorers.

Aside from Baroma, Pajadura and Manuel contributed 14 points each. For Barangay Sauditel, top ace George Palencia had 21 points, followed by J. Balmes 14 and Musngi 10 whose last-ditch effort failed to lift Barangay Sauditel from oblivion. (Dinan Arana and Boy delos Santos)
