RIYADH, 12 February 2003 — Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in the Kingdom can now register by means of text messaging, the Philippine Embassy here announced yesterday.

In a press statement, the embassy said registration can be done by sending the following message to telephone number 059-252241:

1. OFW (for dependents, replace OFW with the letters dep)

2. Passport or iqama number

3. Full name of OFW

4. OFW contact number

5. Contact number of employer

6. Occupation of OFW

7. KSA address of OFW (not P.O. Box and no comma within the address)

8. Next of kin in the Philippines

9. Next of kin’s contact number.

The message must not exceed 166 characters, must be in the sequence shown above, and each separated by a comma. No other word or character, such as words of thanks or opening statements, must be inserted in the message to avoid confusion.

Those without access to cell phones may register by e-mail to [email protected]. Online registration is also available at www.txtmoko.net.

Tradition physical registration are to take place at the Asia Restaurant in Dammam and the Puerto Azul Restaurant in Alkhobar. Members of Filipino community organizations may also contact their officers for registration purposes.

The registration is to determine the number and locations of Filipino citizens in the Middle East for easier mobilization in case of evacuation.
