JEDDAH, 21 February 2003 — The race to collect as many points on the 12th playing match in the Tuesday Night League here at the Jeddah Bowling Center ended in a cliff-hanger among powerhouse teams. The Al Sayaad Establishment team, which only scored 26 points after two games, bombarded JBC on the final set to edge out power house contenders for the week’s plum by a hairline.
Led by their astute team captain Cosa Sta. Ana (246) and anchored by Jess Pineda (246), Al Sayaad blasted 1131 (18 points), which powered the team to collect 18 bonus points at a 3-game series of 3048. The sterling assists on the last game by Rudy Punzalan (225), Val Magsino (219) and Benjie Cils (195) brought their total points to 62, a point away from LVNJ.
In accordance with the existing rules, however, the prize for the week’s top team award will be presented to Al Zamil Heavy Industries which scored 51 points. The teams of Al Sayaad (62), LVNJ (61), Thunderball (60), Top Gun (56), Comfort Fabrics (53) and Al Alamiah Insektos were already winners in earlier matches. The members of the team are Nap Patayan, Rene Santiago, Allan Sanoza, Gil Ordonez and Rey Pormilda. LVNJ immediately led the pack in two games when at the start, the reliable Leo Pangilinan drilled 10 strikes for a towering 276 that brought the team’s total to 1065 (18 points). With the support of Alex Tabusares, Jerriel Cacao, Bien Hermosura, and Leo Laygo LVNJ swept 1005 for 15 points.
In the final game LVNJ bowlers scored 11 points (953 pins) equalizing the 44 total points earned by Al Sayaad. When the scores of all the teams were tapered down, LVNJ got 17 bonus points while Al Sayaad had 18. LVNJ submitted 61 points. After three games Thunderball merely got 15 points at a series of 2965. It only accumulated 60 points.
Top Gun hit 17 points (1041) when power player Goying Salazar fired 10 strikes for whooping 279. He was ably supported by Bert Tuvera (247). Top Gun fired 56 points. Al Alamiah Insektos snatched the maximum points on the second game (18) and it went home with only 52 points.
The duo of Hashim Guinomla and Nonie Yap flexed their muscles, swiped 648 and 645, respectively, and brought their series to 2960 (14 points). Raul de los Reyes led Comfort Fabric Softeners in hunting down more points on his way to claiming the bowler of the week award at 3-game series of 681 including handicap.
Assisted by the 612 series of Joey Salvador, after hitting 251 on game one, Comfort Fabric brought home 53 points. Goying Salaza of Top Gun, Roger Abantas of Sky Freight Forwarders, Leo Pangilinan of LVNJ and Jess Pineda of Al Sayaad received special prizes for bagging seven consecutive strikes.
Jerriel Cacao of LVNJ and Larry Santos of Cab Fare were winners of Sakuna awards, an award for a strike made without first hitting the headpin. Outstanding bowlers Goying Salazar of Top Gun and Joey Salvador of Comfort Fabric Softeners joined the BBG Elite Bowler’s Club by submitting their first entry card at the scores of 279 and 251, respectively. Leo Pangilinan of LVNJ submitted his second card at a score of 276.

Cab Fare flagged down 42 points; Speed Sports Club ran at a speed of 39; SkyFreight Forwarders unloaded 35 points; Al Saddiq registered 32. SPIC submitted 27.
Zuhair Fayez Partnership gained 24.5 points. International team collected 18 points. Seiko-PNB clocked 17. Tuesday Spoilers went home with 12 points.
On the 13th playing match, Class ‘O’ bowler Hashim Guinomla fired 684 in 3 pressure-laden games to claim another bowler of the week award. Equipped with a 15-lb reactive Columbia, Guinomla shot four strikes and eight spares at the start for a total of 226.
Guinomla edged out Saudi Arabian Yousef Akbar of PICPA-PRO, who was leading the pack with a score of 494 (279, 215) after two games. Yousef met walls of splits on the final stretch (181) and posted a 3-game series of 675. Dark horse Ruben Medina of Top Gun (425 including handicap) galloped fast on the last leg, scored 245 scratch and brought his series to 678 yet it was short by 7 pins to overtake Guinomla.
Ariel Urquia of SPIC, who has 447 including handicap in two games, dropped his claim after scoring 191. Cris ‘the veteran’ Villavelez of Zuhair Fayez Partnership, who had 265 (229, 236) after the penultimate game, submitted his final entry at 213 when he missed to conjure a baby split into a spare. Val Magsino of Al Sayaad (451 including handicap) had succumbed to the pressure-laden final game and submitted a total of 655 in three sets.
In accordance with the existing rules, however, the prize for the week will be awarded to Cris Villavelez (678). Yousef Akbar of PICPA-PRO and Hero Garcia of Sky Freight Forwarders were winners of the 7-bagger fun game, and Garcia also received a gift for making a strike without first hitting the headpin (Sakuna award).
Garcia’s 266 game was his first entry pass to the BBG Elite Bowler’s Club while Yousef Akbar’s 279 was his second entry card. The honors in the team category was taken by Al Alamiah Insektos with an almost perfect score of 70 points (72 is the perfect score). The ‘Insektos’ missed by one point (17) at the start to SPIC (1029-1035) and another point (17) on the second game to Cab Fare (974-978). Powered by the quintet of Guinomla, Nonie Yap, Mao Orolfo, Sid Lapena and Kiko Catabas, Al Alamiah grabbed the maximum points (18) on the third set (10091) and snatched the highest bonus points (18) at a series of 3094.
