MAKKAH, 21 February 2003 — Vandalism in public parks costs the government an estimated SR100 million a year, according to Al-Madinah newspaper. Hesham Shili, general manager of parks in the Makkah Municipality, said the cost of installing a piece of playground equipment could reach SR50,000. Park officials sometimes find the equipment vandalized the very next day.
