JEDDAH, 21 February 2003 — The 1st round of Team Event of LG Table Tennis Tournament 2003 was successfully completed last week. Matches for round 1 were played nonstop from 3 p.m. till 9 p.m.
Bajaba Electronics had an easy win over Saudi ABV with Mansoor Abdul Rehman of Bajaba Electronics, leaving his opponents far behind with swift moves and tactical placements.
Arabian Stores Company (Sarawat) defeated SGB Baroom easily as Shafiq Ahmed and Mohsin Ba Mehriz of Sarawat exhibited excelled.
In other matches, Al-Suhaimi Pump Systems beat Freshers while Royal Sun Alliance Insurance Company had to fight hard to get the winning margin against SNAS Trading.
The young team of Pakistan International School 1 (PISJ-1) got the walkover against Al-Sunaidi Industrial Company. A young Saudi team “Saudi Stars” led by Majed Baghlaf moved to round 2 as they were awarded the walkover against Asdaa Public Relations.
However, they played an exhibition match against Tokio Marine.
In other matches, DHL defeated Team Y & R, Pakistan International School 2 (PISJ-2) lost to Al-Hamra Sofitel Hotel, Jeddah Le Meridien Hotel beat strong Riyadh House Est 2, VIP Travel with experienced Rushdi Sherwani and Dr. Rehan Khan, who won outright against West Siders while Jeddah Graphic Center defeated Al-Alamiya Insurance Company and Al-Hamrani Fuchs Petroleum had an easy win over H. G. Ibrahim Shaker Co.
The match between MedNet Gulf and United Yousef Naghi Electronics Division was a real thrill of the day as MedNet Gulf had to fight hard to win the match.
The match was decided in 5th set in which, Dr. Afsar Ehtesham of MedNet Gulf finally won with narrow margin against Manzoor Kaleem of United Yousef Naghi Electronics Division.
Adil Dalloul of United Yousef Naghi Electronics Division played tremendously well during this match.
Following 16 teams have won their matches in round 1 of team event and will play in 2nd round today.
