RIYADH, 21 February 2003 — Eight city dart teams began action in the 17th EDSA Inter-Commercial Dart Team Tournament at the Cues Recreation center here. The tourney dubbed as “FILA Dart Classics 2003” is the first inter-commercial dart team tournament organized by the Expat Darters of Saudi Arabia (EDSA) this year.
This tournament is sponsored by Sodas Sports, and hosted by Cues Recreation Center.
Mario Guanzon’s Phoenix beat Wild Bulls-Phoenix, 13-4 while top-rated Snipers team headed by Jheriel Alberto survived a pressure-packed decision game against the rookie Scorpion team, 9-8.
Phoenix swept a 6-2 lead in the singles that rattled the Bulls into the doubles. They donated the second doubles and went for the kill in the last doubles courtesy of Vic Vijica and Peter Lachica.
With the momentum still hot, Phoenix maintained composure and snatched the team match at 13-4 final score.
In another match, Snipers and Scorpion team evened in the singles with a 4-all score.
A tough Gary Terso/Jun Danabar tandem grabbed the first doubles for Snipers only to find their last two duos surrendering to Scorpion’s contingents stretching the game to the team match.
Both teams exchanged square skills in the final leg until veteran Ely Martos was gifted a 70 outing. His first pin accurately hit T18 and second a perfect D16 ending the game in their favor, 9-8.
Veteran player Jun Danabar of Snipers and Danny Puda of Wild Bulls-Phoenix recorded the same least dart output of 100 (ton) via two darts finish.
The eight contesting teams are: Snipers of Jheriel Alberto, Fila-Ace Darters of Flor Almoite, Scorpion Dart Team of Dado Corpuz, Phoenix of Mario Guanzon, STR Taytay of Fred Borja, Wakaray Darters of Peter Maranan, Bulls-Phoenix of Eding Galera and Kamikaze Darters of Jojo Garcia.
Games are played in 01 mode comprising eight singles at 1 point each, three doubles at 2 points each and a team match at 3 points for a total of 17 points.
A team requires 9 points to seal a victory. Spectators are welcome every Friday at the Cues Recreation Center where admission is free. Games start at 1: 30 p.m.
