According to “Saudi Commerce and Economic Review,” Saudi Aramco has urged its suppliers to implement supply chain management systems in order to improve their efficiency and competitive position in the market. During a symposium, executives from more than 300 of Aramco’s domestic suppliers and vendors were told by Esam A. Mousli, materials supply executive director, Saudi Aramco, “You must adapt to new changes in the business world.” Hisham A. Al-Rammah, manager, Purchasing Department, Saudi Aramco, disclosed that Saudi Aramco plans to procure over SR6 billion worth of materials, goods and services for the year 2003. He advised local firms to improve the quality of their products and to adopt the latest technology in the goods supply chain in order to carve out a bigger share of business with the company. He asserted that Saudi Aramco will continue to uphold its policy to prefer local firms over foreign suppliers. Al-Rammah added that currently around 90 percent of Saudi Aramco’s suppliers are local companies.
