RIYADH, 28 February 2003 — Ed Iranzo snatched the titles in the Singles and All Events of the OWWA 2003 Haj Goodwill Games organized by the Filipino Overseas Bowlers of Riyadh (FOBR) here.
Class ‘B’ bowler Ed Iranzo, member of the EC Bowling Team won the Single’s Event at a 5-game series of 1059 including handicap.
Equipped with a 5-pin handicap per game, Iranzo burned the lanes for scores of 191, 203, 214, 206 and 220 that enabled him to lead by four his nearest pursuer.
Rodel Huidem took second place (1013) and Rey Dela bagged third (1004). Iranzo received a Omnia microwave and cash prize of SR400 while the two runners-up pocketed SR200 and SR100, respectively.
In the All Events, E. Iranzo captured the championship with a 13-game series of 2550 and took the prized washing machine and a cash prize of SR300. E. Noto finished second at 2535 and R. Huidem was third at 2511.
The Games were played under the auspices of the Philippine Embassy through the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), facilitated by Supervising Welfare Officers Angel Borja (Central Province) and Sotero ‘Boy’ Tornea (Eastern Province) of the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO).
The major sponsor was Philippine Air Lines (PAL), which provided round-trip ticket (Riyadh-Manila-Riyadh) to the Masters Event champion in Division I, through KSA Country Manager Jun Ordillano.
