RIYADH, 28 February 2003 — Oscar Bernabe of Riyadh Delegation beat other aspirants in crucial games to win the singles crown in the just-concluded 2003 Annual Haj Goodwill Games held at the Riyadh Inter-Continental Hotel Bowling Center.
Bernabe, consistently held the top spot from the start and toppled a series of 1232, with an average of 205. Bernabe shot 197, 177, 206, 180 and 195. For his feat, Bernabe received attractive electronic items and an elegant trophy.
In second place was Arcie Consolacion, a delegate from Riyadh. Consolacion rolled a series of 1201 (172, 213, 237, 192, 172) for an average of 200. Nap Patayan of the FTBJ/BBG Delegation secured third place. Patayan tallied a series of 1187. Vher Cayago finished fourth with 1183. Cayago sizzled in the last game to fire a towering game-high of 298, two pins short of the 300 perfect score. Cayago was the singles event high game holder. Nante Paralejas of Riyadh took fifth place by carding a series of 1154, rolling 180, 198, 193, 192, 196 and 195.
Filbowler’s ace bowler, Edwin Avelino settled for sixth place with a series of 1149. Occupying the seventh and eight places were Rene Martinez of FTBJ/BBG and Ronnie Bernardo of the Filbowler.
Martinez and Bernardo submitted separate series of 1149 and 1145 respectively.
Willie de Mesa (1145) and Jojo Demetrio (1144) of the Riyadh Delegation occupied the ninth and tenth positions. The just concluded 2003 Annual Haj Goodwill Games All Filipino Kingdomwide Bowling Tournament was hosted by the Overseas Filipino Workers Bowlers of Riyadh (OFWBR). The event was held in cooperation with the R-500 and at the Riyadh Inter-Continental Hotel Bowling Center. The major sponsors were SMSA Express, Licensee of the Federal Express Corporation, Saudi Telecom, House of Donuts, Al-Sarh International Travel Agency and the Norconsult Telematics.
