JEDDAH, 6 March 2003 — The sixth annual Young Scientist Program, which was established by Al-Baik fast-food restaurant and Coca-Cola in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and the Jeddah Science and Technology Center, is set to begin its activities for 2003.
It is a learning program geared toward encouraging students from across the Kingdom to put their creative and intellectual skills to better use.
“Our youth are our most precious responsibility, and this is a way of nurturing their talent and supporting the young scientists among them,” said Eng Rami Abu Ghazaleh, CEO of the Express Foods Company.
The program has been host to a number of different events and activities, among them the Al-Baik-Coca-Cola Annual Young Scientists Festival and Competition. Hosted at the Jeddah Science and Technology Center under the supervision of the Ministry of Education, it invited students from the Kingdom to come up with inventions which will “help save the Kingdom’s natural resources”.
A committee made up of academics from King Abdul Aziz University and officials from both the Ministry of Education and Jeddah Science and Technology Center will judge the entries.
The winners will receive prizes ranging from computers to the grand prize: A weeklong training session at the Space Camp in Izmir, Turkey.
Other activities the program oversees are the Mad Science Program, a scientific performance targeting schools where scientists exhibit interactive experiments to elementary school children, and the Young Scientist Club, open to all students, with updates on interesting items from the world of science.
