MAKKAH, 17 March 2003 — A 17-year-old expatriate wife killed her Saudi husband, 45, after spending 18 months with him in a forced marriage, Okaz newspaper reported yesterday.
The girl’s father forced the girl to marry the Saudi so she could get Saudi citizenship and he in turn could get sponsorship to work.
The girl tried many times to talk her father out of going through with the forced marriage, but he did not listen.
After a year and a half of torturous life with her violent husband, she decided to take matters into her own hands.
She started behaving nicely with her husband, according to Okaz.
In a romantic moment in bed, she convinced him that she wanted to put a rope around his neck to play a new game. As soon as the rope was in place, she started strangling him and striking his head until he fell unconscious. She continued to strangle him until he died.
The girl is now in police custody pending an investigation.
