RIYADH, 7 March 2003 — The devastating forms of Turki Al-Essa lifted the Power Grip team keglers captained by Salman Al-Farraj to win the accolades in the opening day of the RBC Friday Night Bowling League organized by Samsco Sports Pro Shop through its proprietor Nader Al-Kady. The league is being played at the Riyadh Bowling Club, Rabwa District.
Turki, one of the promising Saudi keglers in the region, posted a remarkable four-game series of 921. Turki rolled 173 in the first game of action, followed by a sizzling 233 in the second and exploded a towering game-high of 259 in the third followed by another 236. For his feat, Turki romped away with the coveted best bowler of the week award.
Turki’s awesome performance added another laurel to his cap when he powered Power Grip squad, captained by Salman Al-Farraj, to the best team of the week award. Power Grip garnered an impressive total team output handicap of 4014 points over their rivals, the Samsco team. The latter, managed by Nader Al-Kady, produced an overall total team output of 3501. Power Grip collected 24 bigs points while the Samsco got 2 points.
Aside from Turki, Faisal Al-Shatry, Fareed Aquino and Bader Al-Sheikh toppled separate series of 763, 759 and 755 in Power Grip’s fine run. Gary Climaco and Hassan Al-Sheikh added a series of 419 and 397 in two matches. The Power Grip astounding victory lifted them to the leader spot.
Al-Kady burned the lanes to topscore for Samsco with a four-game series handicap of 831 pinfalls. Bilal Al-Jiffry seared the lanes to come in next to Nader with 770. Ernie Aquino and Ali Jaafar toppled series of 687 and 656 in four outings while Ibrahim Abaalkhel had a score of 549 series in three games.
The Thunderball team under the leadership of Rolly Manalang demolished the Parokya 2 (16-6). For the Thunderball the dynamic duo of Jim Lasaca and Ronald Bautista shot four-game series handicap of 824 and 803. The experienced Jett Cabana shared limelight with Lasaca and Bautista by adding series of 802 in four matches. Manalang and Nante Paralejas contributed series of 744 and 723. Unheralded Jeri Austria led the Parokya team by carding a four-game series handicap of 806.
