RIYADH, 13 March 2003 — Amid the tension, a fiesta is unfolding. The Dabawenyo Overseas Association (Dabaw) will lead the celebration of the 66th Araw ng Dabaw tomorrow and Friday at the Philippine Embassy grounds. “This event is a manifestation of our resilience as a people that we can recover, and recover fast, from the bombing incident our province had experienced last week, through a fiesta” said a member. On March 4, a bomb exploded at the terminal of the Davao International Airport, killing 23 people and injuring more than 100 more. Tani Cuevas, Dabaw president, said the festivity is concurrent to the celebration in Davao, which started on Monday and will culminate on Sunday. A live band concert will highlight the first day of celebration on Thursday. Tickets will be sold, and the proceeds will benefit stranded Filipino migrant workers and Bantay Bata 163-Davao. An inter-community invitational volleyball tournament, a poster-making contest, an exhibition of Davao products, parlor games, and a medical mission will be the second day’s highlights open free to the public. “ATO NI! Celebrating Dabawenyo Culture and Unity of Filipino Community Groups in KSA,” is the theme of the 66th Araw ng Dabaw celebration in Riyadh. Apo, the Philippine eagle, durian, and different variety of orchids.
