RIYADH, 25 March 2003 — The Kingdom is free from a mysterious respiratory disease that has killed 16 people worldwide, and a series of measures have been taken against the epidemic, it was announced here yesterday.
Health Minister Osama Shubokshi said that preventive measures taken include isolating any suspected cases and boosting readiness at the Kingdom’s medical facilities to deal with such cases.
He urged citizens to immediately report any symptoms as the virus spreads very fast. Travelers and air crew have also been warned about the illness known as Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS).
At least 386 suspected SARS cases have been reported in 13 countries, according to World Health Organisation (WHO) figures.
