SANAA, 29 March 2003 — Yemen is to open a new border crossing with Saudi Arabia to bolster two-way trade exchange and movement of travelers, an official source said yesterday.
The source told Deutsche Presse-Agentur that the Yemeni Cabinet had entrusted Interior Ministry and local authorities of the eastern province of Hadhramout with opening the crossing within a month.
The crossing would link the Saudi southern district of Al-Wade’a with the Al-Abr district, some 900 km east of the Yemeni capital Sanaa. “The new crossing would help facilitate trade exchange and passage of travelers between the two countries,” said the source.
