We shouldn’t be surprised if one day we wake to find ourselves being transformed into unicorns, that horse-like animal with a long single horn. Do you wonder why? It is because we have just discovered a new kind of lying that may be added to the Dictionary of the Common Lies we are all familiar with. The new discovery is the American version of lying.
What we are witnessing these days beggars belief. In the morning, Richard Myers tells us a lie. Soon Ari Fleischer follows him with a bigger lie. The two lies pale when compared to what Tommy Franks says later in Doha. And Franks’ lie looks small whenever Donald Rumsfeld faces the press and spouts a still bigger lie. A little later in the evening, Colin Powell emerges with another enormous lie. Naturally, the final act of the show isn’t complete until the big boss who taught all the aides to lie tells some to cap them all.
What we see is a bunch of used car salesmen bent on telling lies. They keep doing so even though the car they are trying to sell is long past its use. This is especially true when they go on about the Geneva Conventions, forgetting they are the ones who first violated them by their treatment of prisoners at Guantanamo who are kept in cages like animals. They also seem to forget they were the first to show Iraqi prisoners of war on television.
What shameful behavior! It is important to remember that the Americans will keep telling lies and that the same salesmen will try to sell even more of their outdated goods. There are always the gullible who want to buy. We may even see an increase in the demand for this kind of stuff. It is always the same story — lie, lie, and keep lying until people begin to believe you.
