Some of our Arab-American brothers argue that those opposing this war of aggression on Iraq are in fact supporting the tyranny and brutality of Saddam Hussein.
Those who are standing against the war, Arab-Americans claim, want Saddam and his totalitarian regime to continue in power to carry on with their atrocities. They keep reminding every one of Saddam’s crimes against his people and the plundering of Iraq’s wealth.
They are right that Saddam’s crimes should not be defended or justified. But why do these Arab-Americans turn a blind eye when seeing Iraqi children being murdered and their brains and skulls crushed, and why do they keep silent seeing all these massacres being committed against the Iraqi civilian population?
The answer is simple. Our brothers, the Arab-Americans supporting the war against Iraq, are impressed with what their government keeps telling them: That the objective is to remove Saddam from power and end the corrupt regime in Baghdad.
Since they consider America to be the noble savior of the Iraqi people, our brothers see no harm in fulfilling this role even if it means having American soldiers marching on pools of Iraqi blood and crushed bodies. Let Iraqis die, since they failed to produce the regime change sought by America! Since Iraqis killed in the war would not have exercised the promised democracy the Americans wanted, let them be exterminated and replaced by others willing to meet American demands. This new breed of Iraqis will become an asset adding to their Arab-American brothers living in the United States. America will kill two birds with one stone after having successfully planted the seeds of a new generation of Iraqis fascinated by everything American.
Our Arab-American brothers don’t view the American aggression and military presence as new colonization.
They don’t see in it enough reason for a hell fire that would engulf the entire region. They only see in this aggression the beginning of a new era of democracy, human rights and affluence.
Our Arab-American brothers will never be disappointed by their government, which uses all means to achieve its objectives in Iraq, even if this results in killing the entire Iraqi people. Washington has already started directing accusations at Syria and Iraq. Do our Arab-American brothers know where all this is leading us?
