TAIF, 16 April 2003 — Four false bomb alerts were reported in Taif last week.

The first alarm was reported by Ba Wareth Shopping Center on Abu Bakr Street, which was immediately evacuated.

“Last Wednesday the police and Civil Defense officials came to us before Isha prayers and asked us to vacate the center,” Fahd Awad Al-Zaidi, manager of Ba Wareth Center, told Arab News: “They searched everywhere for the bomb but found nothing. Since then everything has been normal.”

In the following few days false alarms were reported at Hasaan Street and in the Shehar area.

The last bomb hoax was directed at a police station, which was evacuated until the Civil Defense issued the all clear.

A police source confirmed the incidents to Arab News and said each alarm had been taken seriously and thoroughly investigated.
