JEDDAH, 20 April 2003 — As part of its community service commitment, the Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers in the Western Region will conduct another non-technical seminar, this time on first aid.

Entitled “Emergency First Aid Procedures,” the seminar will be held on Thursday at the Al-Hamra Sofitel Hotel on Palestine Road in Jeddah, starting at 5:30 p.m.

PSME officials said nursing educator Julieta G. Roa of the King Fahd Armed Forces Hospital, the resource person, will focus on first aid for emergencies at the industrial work area. She will present first aid procedures through lectures, slide shows, video clips, and hands-on demonstration of first aid techniques.

Chapter President Orlando Digma said learning about first is a very useful exercise not only in the work place but also at home or wherever one goes. Digma said the seminar is open to non-members.

The PSME-WRSA, as the chapter is called, is one of the active Filipino professional organizations in the Kingdom. Just recently, it conducted its first plant tour of Freisland Arabia Ltd., a dairy company. Rommel D. de Leon, the company’s operation manager, guided the participants during the plant tour and introduced to them the basics of dairy processing.

After the first aid seminar, members of PSME chapter will compete in a table tennis tournament on Friday. Games start at 9 a.m. at Baksh Hospital basketball court.
