JOUF, 22 April 2003 — A senior police officer in the northern Jouf region was shot dead here yesterday by an unidentified gunman, SPA reported quoting the police director of the region.

He said Lt. Col. Hamoud Ali Al-Rabie, director of Azizia police station in Sakaka, was killed in a gun attack while returning home after work.

This is the fourth such incident in the Jouf region in less than a year. Security officers are investigating.

Last month, a traffic officer was killed in Sakaka by a gunman, who was later arrested. The motive for the two attacks was unclear.

The deputy governor of Jouf, Hamad Al-Wardi, was shot dead on his way to work about two months ago. A judge was killed in September in the same region as he was leaving a mosque after Friday prayers.
