NEW YORK, 12 November 2003 — Rookie Raffi Torres had his first two-goal game in the NHL as the Edmonton Oilers edged the New York Rangers 5-4 in one of three games played on Monday.
The Oilers beat their former coach and general manager Glen Sather in his first game coaching against the franchise he either was coach or general manager of for 24 years, before joining the Rangers.
Sather won five Stanley Cups in Edmonton.
Torres scored consecutive goals less than four minutes apart in the second period to give the Oilers a 4-2 lead they would not relinquish. Former Ranger Radek Dvorak and Jarret Stoll scored their first goals of the season for Edmonton.
Jason Chimera scored the other goal for the Oilers, the game-winner at 4:37 of the third period. Ty Conklin made 32 saves in goal for the Oilers, replacing the injured Tommy Salo. Bobby Holik scored twice for the Rangers, while Boris Mironov and Brian Leetch scored the other New York goals.
Eric Lindros added two assists for the Rangers, who have lost three straight.

In Washington, Trent Klatt scored a pair of goals to lead the Los Angeles Kings to a 3-2 win over the struggling Capitals.
Sean Avery scored the other L.A. goal, while Roman Cechmanek made 23 saves in goal as the Kings moved into sole possession of first place in the Pacific Division.
Robert Lang scored both goals for the Capitals, who have won just three games (3-11-1-0) this season.

In Detroit, Dominik Hasek stopped 21 shots in his first game back from injury as the Red Wings blanked the Chicago Blackhawks 3-0. Hasek posted his second shutout of the season, while Brett Hull had two assists for the Wings.
