OTTAWA, 29 November 2003 — Markus Naslund scored with 46.2 seconds left in overtime to give the Vancouver Canucks a 3-2 win over the Ottawa Senators in one of just four games played in the National Hockey League yesterday.

Sami Salo’s shot from the point went off Naslund’s leg during a scramble in front of the Ottawa net to give the Canucks their second straight win after they lost back-to-back games to the Toronto Maple Leafs earlier in the week.

Vancouver has also won two straight road games after ending their five-game road losing streak on Tuesday in Montreal.

Dan Cloutier made 31 saves in the Vancouver goal to earn his 100th career victory. Mike Keane and Daniel Sedin scored to give the Canucks a 2-0 lead, but the Senators rallied to tie the game on Cloutier with two goals 51 seconds apart late in the second period.

Peter Schaefer and Jason Spezza scored the goals for the Senators, while Patrick Lalime made 24 saves in goal. The game was a sellout at the Corel Center, the Senators third of the season but the first since the opening two games.

Maple Leafs 3 Thrashers 1

In Atlanta, Ed Belfour made 31 saves to lead the Toronto Maple Leafs to their third straight win, 3-1 over the Thrashers.

Owen Nolan scored a pair of goals for the Maple Leafs, while Darcy Tucker added a goal and an assist.

Ilya Kovalchuk scored his lead-leading 17th goal of the season for Atlanta, spoiling Belfour’s shutout attempt with 1:26 left to play.

Coyotes 6 Kings 4

In Phoenix, Ladislav Nagy had three goals and an assist to lead the Coyotes past the Los Angeles Kings 6-4.

Shane Doan added a goal and two assists for Phoenix, while Branko Radivojevic and Tyson Nash into an empty net had the other Phoenix goals. Aaron Miller, Michael Cammalleri, Jon Sim and Eric Blenader scored the goals for Los Angeles.

Avalanche 6 Flames 5 (OT)

In Calgary, Derek Morris scored at 2:24 of overtime to lead the Colorado Avalanche past the Calgary Flames 6-5.

Adam Foote, Milan Hejduk, Joe Sakic, Teemu Selanne and Travis Brigley scored the other goals for the Avalanche.

Oleg Saprykin scored a pair of goals for the Flames, while Shean Donovan, Jordan Leopold and Andrew Ference scored the other Calgary goals.

Maple Leafs Mogilny Out 10-12 Weeks Following Hip Surgery

Toronto Maple Leafs right wing Alexander Mogilny will be sidelined 10 to 12 weeks after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his left hip, the team announced.

The procedure was performed in Pittsburgh by Marc Philippon, the same specialist who is treating ailing Penguins superstar Mario Lemieux.

“Alex’s desire to continue to play through the injury speaks highly of his commitment to the team and to our fans,” Leafs general manager John Ferguson said. “After receiving the evaluation, we all felt that it was best to take care of this situation now.”

Mogilny has missed seven games due to injury this season and has not played since Friday. He is third on the team in scoring with five goals and seven assists in 15 games.
