ALKHOBAR, 9 April 2004 — The first encounter of the best-of-three” rounds of Al-Hugayet-Juffali Dual Team Tennis tournament got under way on March 24-26 with 12 scheduled matches to stir up the 3 days exciting events at the Juffali Residential Compound. During the last day of the tournament, Juffali’s top seed led from the front posting first-round 9 impressive victory out of 11 matches.
Juffali’s Roldan Zartiga and Arnel Espina overpowered Bel Aguilera and Rey Gines 10-5. Meanwhile, Melvin Dagdag and Chris Hebrio of Al-Hugayet were mauled by Danny Bernal and Angel Aquino 10-3. Ed Quinto and Nestor Oribello subdued the strong tandem of Abel Mayo and Cris Cabrera of Juffali 10-5 but Juffali’s Victor Richohermosa and Ato Ronquillo sprung back to crush Bernie Mayor and Boyet Baldovino of Al-Hugayet 10-1.
Al-Hugayet’s seeded players in Category “B”, Ildone Galvez and Radi Marasigan showed signs of stirring during the initial duel but finally succumbed to the more experienced players of Juffali, Agot Tayoto and Manny Esico 10-5. Al-Hugayet will relish yet another challenge when it resumes playing with Juffali in the second round of this tournament slated to be on April 15 and 16.
The tournament was made possible through the initiative of Bernie Mayor of Al-Hugayet and Pete Ramos of Juffali, and organized by Nestor Oribello and Nilo Failano.
