JEDDAH, 14 April 2004 — Reliance Noor XI lifted the Late Khaled Taher Cricket Tournament championship, which ended here on Sunday. Malay Team were runners-up.
Organized by Radwa Sports and Welfare Committee, eight teams participated in the tournament organized in memory of Khaled A. Taher, owner of the Taher Group of Companies.
The other participants were Radwa, Allied Stars, Sianco, AIC, KAAH and GCT.
Sponsored by Tarek A. Taher, chief executive officer and president of the Taher Group of Companies, the tournament was held at Radwa Cricket Ground at Dahban, Madinah Road.
The tournament, which featured day-night matches, began on March 4 and the final was played on Saturday. Tarek Taher distributed the prizes at a ceremony held on Sunday.
Janaka of Malay Club was adjudged the man of the series for scoring 89 runs and taking seven wickets in the tournament. Vardan of GCT Club, with a haul of 10 wickets in four matches, was the best bowler of the tournament.
Afroz of Reliance Club scored 69 runs in four matches to be declared the tournament’s best batsman. Man of the final match was Usman of Reliance Club for scoring 29 runs in 21 balls and conceding 16 just runs in four overs.
The 25-member Radwa Sports and Welfare Committee 2004, with Aleem Pasha as president, M.J. Sharif as supporting committee member, and Gavin Alexander and Dr. Hesham Ewais as management representative, conducted the tournament.
Matches were played on league-cum-knockout basis. The committee also includes Tarek Diab, John Richards, Khaled Masrouha, A.C.M. Fouz, Adel Sultan, Ahmad Basudan, Amer Khan, Anton Swaris, Muhammad Abuhamdia, Muditha Welihinda, Nabil Al-Sawaf, Patrick Henry, Saeed Siddiqui, Ifthekar Ali and Dr. Samy Saleh.
